This rare phosphate was named after Dr. Don ("Digger") Gorman, who taught at the University of Toronto for over forty years. He was our mineralogy professor and one of the best teachers either of us ever knew. We had the great pleasure of giving him a gormanite from the Big Fish River occurance, shortly after Rod and I had been collecting there.
